A-Z Of Writing - H

I write Chick Lit and in Chick Lit there are always heroes and heroines. The heroes don't have to be super, they don't have to run into burning buildings or rescue damsells in distress (although they can) but they do have to fall in love with our heroine. It also helps if the reader falls in love a bit too.

What qualities do you look out for in a hero/heroine?

  1. I guess heroes are known for performing some sort of selfless act for another. Like you said, that doesn't actually have to be life-endangering though, it could be sticking up for someone who's being bullied for example.

  2. Just stopping by from the A-Z Challenge list to say "Hi" :)

I like my hero's to be vulnerable ;)

Good luck with the rest of the challenge!

  3. Heroes and Heroines are great reads. We'd should all try to be somewhat heroic each and everyday of our lives. Simple acts of kindness are heroic in my eyes.

    1. Mine too. You don't have to wear your undies over your tights to be a hero!

  4. Loyalty. Honesty. Intelligence. Bravery. And quirky. For example, they choose to listen to Billie Holiday instead of Nirvana. They have a dozen suits, and all of them are maroon. They are OCD (like Monk on the tv series). There is something about them that makes them stand out from the typical cape-wearing hero.

  5. I like heroes who prove that underneath everything, they have a heart of gold. :-)

  6. Great question! I like strength and toughness, but flaws that help me relate to them.

    1. Yep, they've got to have a flaw. Nobody is perfect, not even heroes.

  7. Sounds like the kind of books that I love to read. I like it when the heroine is not super perfect or beautiful, because then I feel like I can relate. But then the hero finds her to be his special kind of beautiful...

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and commenting. I appreciate it.

  9. I like my heroes conflicted and my heroines tough, possibly even a little jaded.

    1. Yes, heroines have to have something about them. No waiting around for the prince to rescue her!
