A-Z Of Writing - N

I'm not talking about spouses or partners nagging us to get off the computer. This is more like my earlier Daydreaming post. There is always a character or story in my head, nagging to be put on paper. Having just finished a book, I'm planning the next one and am hoping to start writing it soon but already a new story is nagging at me. Not that I mind. Perhaps nagging is too strong a word. I like having those stories up there. I can't imagine what it would be like if they suddenly stopped - apart from it being even more boring when I can't sleep and have no plots to ponder.

Are you nagged by stories?

  1. I have wonderful ideas at bedtime, they always seem ridiculous in the morning though!

    1. Bedtime ideas are always wonderful - but then morning always make seem rubbish or I forget my amazing idea and feel frustrated. Can't win.

  2. I find if I note down the nagging idea on paper or in a file so I can deal with it later, that frees up my mind not to think about it so much.

  4. I wish! ;P Most of the time, I have a story and it doesn't nag...it just steeps. Most times, I have to force the words to come. But they come, slowly. I need to stop with the "perfectionist the first time" attitude. Maybe that's why they don't nag me.

  5. Yes! Those ideas are worth poking at to get them to nag some more. Otherwise, what would we write about?

  7. Usually one tugs more than most, being all domineering and drowning out the others. So I have to write it to get it out!

    1. I get this at times too. Only really becomes a problem when I'm in the middle of writing a book and another one is shouting to be heard, drowning out the original story.

  8. It's been a while since a story has nagged at me--but I've definitely experienced it in the past.

    1. I bet we'd seem mad to people who have never experienced it.

  9. Oh my goodness - am I nagged by stories - you bet! It's why I have so many little stories about my Princelings world in the A to Z this year. At least it gets bits of them down on paper. But then new bits suddenly turn up - like the story for V which takes us off in a whole new direction!
So much to do, so little time!
    Happy A to Z-ing!

  10. Sometimes I wish characters and stories would stop nagging at me so I can sleep! I do find it hard to turn off at night, especially when I've hit a writing problem that needs to be solved. Better to have an active mind though than nothing worth thinking about!

    1. It is difficult to switch off at times. We need a volume control at least.

  11. I would feel SO alone in life if I didn't have stories constantly "nagging" me! I can relate!
